Hi Ritesh,

Here's my take on the Ubuntu situation. I think they are right, in the sense
that Ubuntu tries to integrate all power management stuff into stuff that
fits with their GUI front-ends, and laptop-mode-tools doesn't fit into that
picture. In particular, Ubuntu focuses on Gnome primarily, and tries to use
a single stack of GUI tools which controls back-end tools such as pm-utils
using dbus (what they refer to as the "freedesktop.org stack").

In contrast, Debian doesn't work in that direction very much at all, because
it tries to cater to all kinds of users, including "bare X" users who strip
their laptops to the bare minimum, and users of all kinds of window managers
or even no X at all. In this situation, laptop-mode-tools provides a
"generic" solution that works outside of the confines of the
freedesktop.orgstack. So laptop-mode-tools definitely has its uses,
but I definitely see
why Ubuntu wants to integrate all the useful stuff into their own stack, and
not use laptop-mode-tools' control mechanisms.

Cheers,
Bart
