Yes, I have a DVD device running. I can disable and try again. It is running
through mythTV, but I didn't have any active clients or connections when I
started the test.

The other prcocess is VmWare service running in the background. Again, I
might of accidentally had my VM running when I tested, but it was not in use
at the time.

I agree that all of these items should not be running during the test,
however, I still have the condition that once laptop mode is enabled, the
drive writes go from almost nothing to frequent bursts every few seconds.
I'll try and test again in a few minutes.
