Any particular reasons for doing this ?

In the install.sh script, you can set DESTDIR=/usr/local at the very beginning and try. I have *NOT* tested so can't really confirm if it works.

Another thing you might want to look at is GNU stow.

Thanks- I tried that, but I get stuff in:

/usr/local/usr/bin
/usr/local/usr/share
Etc

I'll have a look at gnu stow
