Nope, the scripts are riddled with hard coded paths. The DESTDIR parameter
to install.sh is intended for distro package managers, which usually want to
install into a folder that has the same layout as the real file system. It
has nothing to do with local/nonlocal. Changing this would require some real
work in the software.
